Sree rAma went to the forest with His brother and wife. In chittirakooTa Barata came and requested Him to return back to ayOdhya. rAma, instead gave him His pAduka. Then went southward to make preparation for war. After winning the war He went back to ayOdhya with Seeta and lakShmaNa and ruled over the kingdom. He lives in Sree rangam where the blue lotuses resemble His body and pirATTi’s eyes. They wave in the wind inviting all the BaktAs to Sree rangam.

It is normally said emberumAn always considers the sins of His dAsAs and say “ He must be punished for those”. At that time pirATTi intervenes to say “who has not committed sin? Please bear with and give him mOkSha”. Since emberumAn never refuses pirATTi’s words He agrees. Here AzhwAr says it differently – pirATTi says “ Your Bakta has committed such and such crimes. You should punish them” (probably to test His opinion. Normally pirATTi never says like this). But BagavAn refuses and says “my devotees never commit any sins, perhaps Your devotee may do”. pirATTi insists “You should not say like this. There is absolutely no doubt he has committed sins”. BagavAn says “what my devotees do may appear as sins to You. They appear good to me. Enough of it, I don’t need to hear anymore about my devotees from You”. What is meant here by AzhwAr is – both of them aspire auspicious state only for their dAsAs.

kaNNan’s various valorous acts are described in the first two lines. The incidents of maruda trees, kuvaLAyapeeDa, pralambAsura, kESi, SakaTAsura, wrestlers etc., are mentioned to say a few. Satru nirasana (killing of enemies) is only half the job. The other half is Bakta paritrAna – uplifting of BaktAs to reach paramapada. The mukta is taken through soorya maNDala called archirAdi mArga to paramapada. There the muktAs are grouped along with nitya sooris and serve BagavAn.

In the kAvEri river flowing around Sree rangam, there are lotuses as beautiful as lotus of Sreeman  nArAyaNa’s flower like naval (nABi kamala). There are no such lotuses any where in the world. In dwAraka BagavAn kriSNa is in the midst of many dEvis, like one big lotus surrounded by many lotuses.

In duryOdana’s yAga the kings who had assembled where heard about Sree kriSNa’s and city dwAraka’s greatness. They wanted to visit kriSNa to make friendship. When they arrived at dwAraka kriSNa honored them according their age and status. At that time Sree nArada came and told kriSNa “You are the greatest of all and most wonderful. No one is like You in the whole world!” For that kriSNa replied “nArada! I am with dakSiNa and I am wonderful and grateful too”. nArada replied “ i am happy to hear this. i understood. i am taking leave of You”. Those assembled their did not understand the dialogue between them. They requested kriSNa to explain the meaning. kriSNa requested nArada to give the explanation. This pASura gives the explanation that nArada gave. This is found in harivanSa, viSNu purANa.

Sree kriSNa promised He would help the pANDavAs in the BArata yuddha. droupadi was humiliated in the duryOdana's saBa. She was dragged by her hair to the court of duryOdana. She made a vow that she will tie her hair only after the kouravAs are taken revenge of. SreekriSNa fulfilled her vow and made pANDavAs the king of hstinApur. Not only that, He helped save the race of pANDavAs by bringing back to life the last of the race, parikShit whenhe was in the womb of uttara. All these acts are always sung by riSis, BaktAs, sanyAsis and siddAs. Sree rangam is the sacred abode for such a Lord.

vAmana begged three steps from mahAbali for the sake of indra and gave back him the lOkAs that he lost. He gave mahAbali the pAtALa lOka. vAmana resides in Sree rangam as ranganAtha. He lies like a mountain of gem on AdisESa. The hoods of AdisESa shine with gems, looking like the raising sun on the mountain of gems.

narasimha could not tolerate the harassment of His Bakta, by hiraNya. He came with the fierce form extremely angry and tore him with His sharp nails. hiraNya, the great and mighty rAkShasa was helpless and cried with pain, eyes bulging out, crowns shattered. Such narasimha resides in tiru arangam as ranganAtha where large lotuses rise high like the tiruvaDi of trivikrama. The paddy crops, like indra and other dEvatAs, bend their heads as though bowing to the lotus-like tiruvaDi.

BagavAn’s all ten avatAra are mentioned in the first two lines. kalki is the tenth one, which the purANAs say will be at the end of kaliyuga on the horse. When the force of kali is too much, all the dharmas vanish and adharmAs flourish. The word effulgent is to be added to each avatAra. This BagavAn resides in tiru arangam where water is plenty, full of lotuses and swans. The swan couples play on the flowers jumping and enjoy it as bed. This suggests the size of the flower by which the affluence of this place is suggested.

BagavAn is the possessor of all the seven worlds, of periya pirATTi, of this whole jagat, of Day and Night, of all the vEdAs and has an army which never fears the war, has garuDAzhwAn as His vAhana (vehicle) and has a sword nandaka to kill ASritavirOdis (the enemies of his devotees)

BagavAn likes this tiru arangam immensely and stays here forever. He has highly effulgent chakrAyudha which killed the crocodile to save gajEndra. All the people from all places come and worship Him here. About Him and His place periyAzhwAr has sung these ten pASurAs which if read will make him one among the group of nityasooris.
